    Good advice.

Sometimes on the style I think you are using, adjusting the intank side box height will help so that bubbles don't get it there as well.

And i agree that faster velocity thru the tube usually pulls bubbles thru. And yes, at times the aqualifter may help sucking out the top as well, - usually not needed though if enough flow is going thru it- as has been said.

What is you sumps section of the return pump section volume like? Can your DT handle that much water before sucking air if/when the siphon breaks?

It may be worth testing it out carefully- so if the siphon breaks- you're not shop vac'ing water off your floor, etc.

** I too didn't know enough early enough to drill, and rely on an elaborate DIY intank overflow, with DIY HOB overflow system that's been working great on my DT.

    Kinda harsh.

I for one never said I prefer my DIY system over a real drilled tank, it's a great alternative since it's not drilled though.

I was in that boat for a few years too. Now I understand.

You could pick up another tank the same dimensions, drill it, go coast to coast LIKE A BOX with a bean, then transfer everything over at once. Low stress, high yield, no more wet floors! Then sell the undrilled tank with the hob overflow for a wash.

I know, but there are really people out there that will fight when someone is asking if they should get a drilled tank or a HOB overflow.... I riles me as I dealt with one of these for 3 years.

Not worth the time and effort for a 20 gallon tank, especially with plans to setup a bigger tank down the road. Believe me, I am 100% for drilling.

Dude.... I going to drill a 2qt Jar. Seriously though. If you set up a good Coast to Coast bean I bet you would get a good return on it when you upgrade. Alot of people like smaller tanks for SPS

I already have the upgrade tank ;). I like where your head is at though! I built a stand and canopy for the 20 gallon already. I should get some good money for it down the road.

I actually agreed with you that drilling was better. I personally cannot afford to have a custom 125g made, drill it and switch everything over. I'm working with what I have and making the best of it till I upgrade. I just think its not cool to say what you were saying. I don't think anybody disagreed with you that drilling was better than hobs. I know people that are inexperienced will fight tooth and nail about drilling but it's also their right to learn either the hard way or learn from others mistakes. I personally learned the hard way due to inexperience and didn't use 3reef like I should have at the time, but I am making the best of it with the tool that are provided. This hobby is a constant learning experience for everyone.
