Noticed some coloration in the sand thru the glass walls....and some trapped air pockets..I recongize the colors as algae green and some red ...Cyno pockets.....When I push a stick into the air pocket, it releases lots of bubbles.

Should I release the bubbles...or let them be ??? Bubbles are only along the glass walls....not towards the center of the tank.

    Thanks

Leave them. They're just the air pockets rising from the sand bed;)

If its a new set up then its simply trapped air or nitrogen gas , if its awell established DSB then it would me nitrogen or methane or hydrogen sulfide or a combination of them all. In either case leave them be .

I think its the cyno bubbles, like the airbubbles that form on the cyno spots on the rock. I noticed the bubbles are associated to dark areas between the glass and sand and when I looked at it closer, it looks like the spots of cyno I have on the rock.

I have been trying to kill the cyno off by creating the best quality water I can, thinking it would sarve out, but it dosen't seem to be working. I have had the cyno a few weeks now and hesitate to use the chemical to treat it, but I think its winning :( seeing more spots on the rocks and spreading...now seeing some darker almost black growth on the rocks?

I think the bubbles are from the cyno...and I assume not to disturb it as it can spread ?

Bubbles are the byproduct of your sand coming alive (Photosynthesis). Growth in Algae in the sand can make this happen. It seems especially more prevelant when your aquarium is exposed to HID lights like MH. The bubbles do not necessarily mean Cyano growing in your tank, it just means that photosynthesis is occuring in your sandbed. By in large, I believe that it's a good thing as your sandbed is coming more alive.

What pulls it from good to bad is your water parameters. If you can minimize your NO3 and PO4 during the establishment of this, my bet is that you'll keep your algae problem to a minimum.

It also helps if you have good flow in the tank to deal with the bubbles as well too. You will notice that these bubbles will be on the rocks as well after a period of time. Then, all of a sudden, the bubble onslaught subsides.

This has been my experience anyways :)
