bubbles normal?

    i just bought a hob skimmer and getting lots of bubbles. is this normal? and if is do i really need it at the moment since im just starting out? i may have space under my display to do a sump but dont know if i can afford to do it at the moment.

    Yes, thats what a skimmer does, it makes bubbles. you dont really need it but they are a very critical piece of equipment if you wish to have success in this hobby.

    when i meant bubbles was that fact they were coming out of the skimmer and adding tons of bubbles to my tank that i did not like. came home from work and wife plugged it in by mistake and no bubbles were going into the tank but a couple like id have from a fresh water tank so im kool with that and liking the fact that the cup is getting dirty.

    What kind of HOB skimmer? your skimmer probably needs to break in... it will add bubbles to your tank until it breaks in... you may also need to adjust the settings...

    If it's a prism skimmer, they are hard to dial in to get zero bubbles... I had one once, and was never really happy with it... if you can, since it's new, take the skimmer back and get something better.

    its a sea clone 100 is what i bought. figure its for a 100g and im a 55g shouldnt b that bad for what im doing.

    Should be ok. The 100 is probably best for tanks no larger than a 55 actually.

    Your skimmer just needs to break in and then dial it in correctly. You may want to dial it back until it's broken in.
