    Hey everyone
    I know this might seem like a newbie question (cause I am new to marine aquariums) but i wanted to know what are micro bubble and how their formed, are they good or bad and plainly what are they.

    Generally speaking, they are very small bubbles that are formed in sumps due to air mixing with overflow water as it drops from the display tank to the sump. If it splashes into the sump, the air and water mix causing almost a foam. If you don't get those bubbles out, they can get pumped back into your display tank by the return pump.

    I don't think they hurt anything, but can make the display tank water look cloudy so most people make an effort to get rid of them in the sump.

    I do not believe they are bad as in they will damage corals. I have had pumps in the past run close to dry and produce copious micro bubbles and no harm was done to the corals. Are they unsightly, for sure.

    They are usually created when moving water comes into contact with air, the more forceful the flow the more air bubble created. Biggest suspects are typically skimmers and pumps or a water level too low.
