I was talking to my husband about what we are going to do with our fish while our tank cycles.. (because we have to start over).. Our fish store is going to charge us money to hold the fish and they are about 2 and 1/2hrs away:-/.. so we were talking about it last night and he came up with a thought and I wanted to know what you guys thought... We were thinking about taking a rubbermaid container and transferring the LR from our tank into the container and fill the container with the same water out of our tank and use the same filter out of our tank.. Now my question is would this be ok to put the fish in tell our tank is done cycling?? Or will the container have to cycle as well?? I wish we new someone who had a sw tank:(.. this would make this so much easier... Enless one of you guys live in WA state and are willing to take care of our little fish tell the cycling is done ;D... Thanks you guys..

Yes you can and no, it shouldnt go through a cycle. Your just transfering from one tank to another. Make sure the LR and the LS is in water and not out of it. Just treat the bucket like if it was a reg. tank. Water circulation, heater, filter, wc and so on. Luna

Are you going to nuke the LR? I thought the rock you had was covered in GH?

Yes we will nuke the LR.. When we get the tank re started we are going to buy some more LR to get the tank cycled as well as a new filter system.. we dont really like our canister anymore... then once it is cycled we will slowly add the fish and once the container is empty of fish we will then start the nuking process for the rock..

It just been going on way too long.. now that it has bryopsis got very frustrated:-/... thats what made us want to start over... But we are looking at all the benefits we get from doing this.. Like we get to up grade our filtration system.. and we get to make a really cool aqua scape.. And for most, we have learnd a lot from this mess.. We are setting up a quarantine tank... :)

I have read a artical of a guy using trash cans cause his tank busted and they lived in the cans for a month or so. One cans had somthing in it that eventualy killed off everything that was in it. So it can be done but becarefull of what you use.

You want to use Rubbermade Brute trashcans......they are food-safe (as well as reef-safe)
