+1. Make sure there is nothing harmful in the container you are using. How big is the tank? You can buy the glass part of the tank for very cheap if its a small tank.

    surfrgirl,

Any container that is food safe will also be reef safe. Restaraunts get some of thier stuff in 5 gallon buckets which are food safe, you can probably pick up a few of those cheap after the restaraunt is finished with them. Also, what fish store are you going to? I'm in the Tri Cities, SE WA, and other than the big box type pet stores stores we've only got one which caters to Saltwater.

Make sure it's food grade otherwise they can leak gasses, chemicals & possibly dyes into the water...

Awesome, I've always wondered about that... I know in my neighborhood we recycle 1 and 2 plastic...

So I guess you want a 5 to be food safe/reef safe?

always buy new... it's a small investment but will save you tons in the long run...I have moved my 90 gallon tank a few times over the last ten years and using a "plastic container" is fine... until this last move I never lost a thing. last time around I was lazy and I'm paying the price now

Oh so their are some SW hobbyist in this neck of the woods ;D!! We go to Lakewood to a pet store called Aquarium Paradise... Its an awesome store.. It has over 2,000gal of SW tanks... and everything the guy gets is in really good condition and his tanks are really really clean.. We have been wanting to look at the fish stores in the Tri Cities area but we never make it over that way.. Our family lives in Gig harbor/Tacoma area so going to the store in Lakewood is no big deal.. Any recommendations on good fish stores in your neck of the woods or fields i should say ;D??
