When I moved my 75g, I switched out about 1/2 the water with new water. However, for the move, needed about 50g to cover all the rock and livestock. The 5g buckets are a lot, but they are much easier to move than trying to luck a few hundred pound trashcan and they keep things organized better. You could do a trashcan for the LR and buckets for the livestock too. I wouldn't trust everything in a big trashcan though either. If it falls over or breaks or something you loose everything... I'd at least put the livestock in buckets. Just my .02 anyways...

Yeah, the livestock and live rock need to be moved in buckets or preferably coolers. The big container needs to be filled with RO and salt at the new place.

I had a friend use a kiddy pool once to put all of his livestock in when his tank cracked. This was an emergency though.

It's not just a matter of getting everything there. It has to be re-aquascaped, rock needs to be cleaned, sand cleaned, fish caught, corals transferred. Can't throw everything in the new tank all dirty and stirred up. It takes a lot of time, and it's a lot of work. To do it right.

Personally, when I move, I will be getting larger tanks, and have then set up and running before any livestock is transferred. :p

Nope, sorry. The biggest part that is often overlooked is making up enough new water and getting it up to temp. You have to decide whether to do a quick job, or a quality job. ;)

I've helped people enough times now, that I won't do it anymore unless there is proper preparation. It's like helping someone move, and finding out when you get there that nothing is in boxes. Not cool.

i went to lowes and found 34G trash cans that have wheels and were 19dollars each.. I bought 4 of them.

what i was thinking is that by saving most of the water i wouldnt have to wait that long...
i really could careless about the time.. heck i could do it 1 bucket at a time.

the problem is my live stock.. i dont want them to be in 5G buckets for 2 days meanwhile everything else is up... ( although i may have no choice..)... i have 6 pumps i can use.. but they are way to powerful for a bucket.. 4 of them may be ok if i aim them in a certain way.

( i do have a 40G container but its been sitting outside for like 5 months...been through winter and what not... if i wash it will it be able to hold my fish?)...

i was thinking on having my tangs in 3 separate buckets... with 1 or 2 other smaller companion.. then my 8 chromis in 1 3.5G bucket.. my clowns and foxface on another 3.5bucket.. my engenier in another bucket.. and im returning my koran angel to the LFS... so..

im just worried on how the heck im i going to keep them alive for what ever the time it takes for my tank to be stable enough to house them.

    everything else can be arranged..

P.S.. this is a 150g tank.. not a 110G.. and its a FOWLR :p so that makes it easier.. in a way.

you would have to 100% water changes in the buckets with fish probaly twice a day, once in morning and once at night
