You can't tell from these pics but he has a cool idea of how to do the top. He is having the top on a hinge so it can come lift up but in the front he is also having doors so for everyday feedings and things he just opens the doors! Can't wait to see it done!

Nice! I have a 150G as well. As for drilling, most tanks that large will have tempered bottom and regular sides. Why not drill the top of one of the walls, put a bulkhead in place with a strainer, or an acrylic overflow and silicon it in place? Tempered glass can be drilled, but it takes a special tool to do so, noy just the regular diamond edged bit. Those are usually reserved for industry professionals from what I understand.

yeah I have my overflow Idea. it's the same one I used in my 50 gallon. It's gonna be 3 holes across the back of the tank. I drilled 5 in the back of my 50 so if I can drill 5 holes in that, I can drill 3 in this tank.

As far as the drilling, if your worried, why not take it to a decent glass shop that will garauntee their work to have it done? That way if something does go bad, you can replace the tank on the shop's budget, and not have to worry about ruining your dream ;)

ok canopy is completely done. We picked the stand up today and I broke down my 90 gallon wave front. It had about 120 lbs of rock or so that I plan on using in the new tank. The rock is in rubbermaids with skimmers and heaters while this build gets underway. As far as drilling my tank goes, I'm gonna do it. I'm only going to drill for 2 1 inch bulkheads so I should be golden on that. BTW my wife wants to do a white stand and canopy so I think that will be the way that we go on that. Also for my sumps I will be connecting 2 20 gallon acrylics sumps via bulkheads to make one big sump. This will house both of my skimmers pretty easy. So far, the total cost of this entire project is 75 bucks =)

    Luna wins

ok Luna. You win. I drilled the tank this afternoon(2 holes only) and it's still in tact and my overflow is made. My overflow is a 1 inch pvc pipe that stretches the 2 ft span between the two holes. The pipe has single slit down the middle (on top of course) and I added teeth to help with the movement. I decided against doing a cls because if I break this tank it would absolutely shatter me.

Ok so I went and helped Daniel break down his 55 gal tank and put it all in his 150. I know he hasn't been on here lately so I thought I would post some pics for everyone that way you can see how far it has come. It is looking better and better all the time. My husband helped him get his lights back to working so that is the next step..... On to the pics!
