I am planning on building a splash guard to replace the sock I have to stop splashing from the water rushing into the sump. I was thinking about using 1 piece of glass 2.5" x 9", 1 piece of glass 2.25" x 9", and a 2.5"x2.5" piece of acrylic that i will drill 2 holes in to. One will be for the water going into the sump from the DT and the other for the tubing from my ATO. If I silicone the glass to the sump in the corner and superglue the acrylic to the glass, will the splashing no longer be a problem? I figure since the tank is 12" tall and the glass for the splashing guard is 9" tall the 3" or so would be more than enough to allow the water to leave the splash guard quickly.

Just to throw it out there, could you use a piece of glass as a ramp from the hose to the sump to get rid of the splash?

I would love to do that, but I have my skimmer in the 1st section where the water enters the sump. This section is big enough for the skimmer and 4" filter sock. This limits my options. I may just build a new sump out of a 30G. The extra 6" from the 20L would make the glass degassing plate feasible.

Hmm... can you get a longer hose then to reduce splashing then (if you don't get a bigger sump)? Mine actually go into the water a bit ..

Mine goes about 2" below the surface. My mine issue is actually the bubbles popping and getting salt everywhere. I like certain things to be clean. Not OCD, but close when it comes to my tank.
