Okay, I'll buy an overflow box today. And I've printed off a lot of sump reading material, so that will be my homework tonight. Yay! Looks kind of fun.

I'm sure if I have questions I will be back! :)

    Okay...question....

I'm looking at overflow boxes. Is it better to have an internal overflow box, or is the hang on kind okay?

And, I don't know yet what size pump I'll have, so what size overflow box should I get?

I ended up buying an overflow that is rated higher than my return pump so I did not lose flow or decrease my tank turnover rate by dialing down my return pump. It also eliminated the gurgling noise without adding extra equipment to stop it.

Upgrading my overflow was money well spent.

I based my sump/refugium off of the one on melsreef (sp?). It is not exactly the same but close and it works great.

Thanks. I've been looking at the Melevsreef website, and there is a lot of great information on there. I think it's helping! :-/ lol

Well, I think I will get the Eshopps overflow PF-800. It says it's good for up to 125 gallons.

A hang on back (HOB) overflow design is internal. When you receive it, or see a decent pic of someone else's; you'll see that it comes in two parts. One box (with the strainer teeth) sits in your aquarium. It's connected via a U-Tube to another box that sits outside the tank. The outside box has the plumbing that runs to the sump.

More easily seen than explained. :)
