Building a sump

So this weekend I am going to build a sump tank. I want a basic sump system rubble on the bottom no sand maybe hermits and starfish in there. I could really use a basic list of what I need. I want it to be a 10 gallon to help my 20 gallon. Please and thank you

Do you have a skimmer?

You should basically have 3 sections, a "supply" section which is your drain from the display tank, a center section for your LR/hermits etc and a return section for your pump back to your display tank.

You should install baffles to separate each section to eliminate bubbles so they dont get sucked back up to your main tank.

Sumps can get way more complex than that but this is the basic one.

 

absolutely agree.. Here is a link to my build...its bigger than your wanting, but the design is the way to go..imo..take a look....and if you look at my old one, you will see how a smaller one has a skimmer HOB hanging on it because it was too small to accommodate a in sump model like I have now.

You can also go as simple as mine. Just 3 baffles for a bubble trap. works perfect. But I am running bio-pellets, so I really don't need a fuge.
