I originally started my 26 gallon as a FOWLR and had no intention to keep corals. So I just replaced the standard fixture that came with my tank with the ZooMed fixture from Petco because it was on sale. I also bought the ZooMed 10k and actinic bulbs and was generally pleased with the light for my FOWLR.

As most of you probably did, I got sucked in and wanted to get my first coral. From the help of research, you guys, and my LFS I learned that I had enough light to keep softies and LPS.

I really want to upgrade my bulbs. I also don't like the overly whitish color spectrum I currently have. I want more of a blue look, but I don't have enough bulbs to really tinker with color.

I know that corals grow the most at 6500k, but the color is just bland to the eye. I want to go higher than my 10k bulb to get more blue, but don't want to hinder my coral growth.

Should I pair a 14k bulb with an actinic bulb? 20k with an actinic? What would be the best combination to get a nice blue color but get coral growth?

You could use the 10k with a 420nm actinic. This will still give you good growth but will be bluer.

What size are your lamps? 2 or 4 pin? I'm not familiar with this fixture.

Get 1 each of ATI Aquablue Special and Blue Plus. Place the Blue Plus at the front.
