    hi all

I just ordered some coralvue 400 watt metal halide bulbs off of ebay, the spec state that the bulbs can be started with any ballast ( pulse/probe start and electronic/ magnetic ballasts) just wondering if this is true, i have not yet purchased the ballasts yet so it really does not matter ;D

    400 watt 10000 K Bulbs
    Item #: CV-MHB-40010

i was thinking that i would get some ballasts from my local electrician because they are cheap as dirt. Do any of you think there would be anything wrong with that.

    thanks

    Peter

"Operate on a probe start ballast, ANSI M59, or an electronic ballast"
This is the only information I could find using the google search engine. The ansi m59 ballast comes in a variety of fixtures.

If you really are a do it yourself type person. You can buy a regular mh fixture like this one TFR400MTATBLPI
Which you can buy at home depot for $197.00. Gut the fixture, put the reflector and bulb assembly in your canopy and then keep the enclosure to house the ballast and incoming power supply. Use about 8 feet of SO cord to run to the bulb/reflector assembly. This way you have an enclosure for the ballast (high temp) and the only thing in your canopy is the bulb and reflector. That's what I did. ;D It sure beat spending over 500 dollars for a prefab job from a LFS or online supplier.
It really depends on how comfortable you are with electricity.
    Have a nice day.

yes acually i did, i got some from my local elelctrician hooked them up to my bulbs and they work great, they look very similar to the ones from that link you posted above.

thank you for the advise about the m59 ballast it saved me alot of trouble, another electrician, when i asked him about metal halide ballasts, gave me a murcury vapour ballast and said it was metal halide.

    so karma to you

    thanks again
