I looked at some dry rock on bulk reef supply & really like how the come together for a natural rock scape as compared to what I have now as just a pile of rocks.

My question is if I would buy new dry rock & I did watch the video where they recommended curing it in salt water with a heater/circulation for a few weeks, how should I eventually add it to an existing tank?

Should I add a little at a time to keep levels from spiking, as I slowly remove some of my existing rock, etc.? I know it will be a long process but in the long run I'm hoping to get a natural look.

Any advice is helpful on how to do this?

I would just give it a good rinse and dry in the sun. There might be some fine dust that accumulated during shipping and settled in those porous holes. After its completely dry add it in the tank. Make sure if its a large amount to compensate for displacement, so empty out water as needed.

I have both rocks from BRS and Reefcleaners. I got the BRS (Pukani) ones first when I had old 29. Quick rinsed with RO/DI, didnt cure them, replaced half of rocks I had. Bad idea. The ugly diatoms everywhere for a few weeks. (Luckily didnt loose any animals.)
When I upgraded to the current 90, used all the rocks including the BRS rocks. Added Reefcleaners rocks after being cured. Here is what I did.
-Take out like 20 gallon from the 90.
-Use the water to start curing in a Rubbermaid.
-Put all the dry rocks after rinsing along with a heater and multiple power heads.
-Add Microbactor7 5ml daily for the fist 2 weeks to boost the bacteria growth.
    -Check for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate.
-After the normal spikes of each one above, you can put the rock in the display tank. Make sure none of them is detectable.
Some might say its overkill, but I thought better be safe than sorry.
    I hope this helps.

i have used 60# dry base rock from reefcleaners without curing it and turned out okay for me. just gave it a good rinse with the changed water i did for that day for they are really dusty. not had any issue with diatoms or algae bloom. tank is a reef tank running for 2 years now. just added it after rinsing and 4-5 months after they are now covered with coralline algae and colored up as the other rocks.

Would Smart Start basically be a similar product?
