Pit Bull Terriers are illegal in Britain because of their instinctive aggresion. I dont personally, consider them to be playful and harmless dogs. I think they were made illegal after the 5th kid had it face ripped off by one

Can we not turn this into a Pit Bull thread? I don't have a Pit Bull. They have excellent attributes. Many dogs have been used for bad things by us.

oh yes i couldnt agree more

Anyway back to the point in hand - perhaps consulting a dog trainer or your Vet for advice would be an ideal course of action going forward.

We put her through training. My coworker's wife is a K9 handler for the Air force. We went out of town for another weekend and was going to board them. I figured it would be cool to let them roam at her house and she could observe her and offer some help.

I went to their house and spent some time the day before to get them acquainted with everyone before hand. Dropped them off the next day. 4 hours in...the closing of the garage door freaked out Java and she bolted. Took off and didn't stop. They live outside the city in rural area.

Long story short.... I came back to town to look for her. Looked for her for 10 days. She is so timid she would not go to people. I finally found her one day after some sightings. She lost 15 pounds.

Here mom was a timid dog. Now through this education timid dogs only breed timid dogs. Oh ya... she also had Parvo as a puppy, so her early months were being separated and poked and prodded. She is Daddy's little girl, and she won't even come to me if she thinks something is up.

Already making a great moderator Steve. :)

Sorry to hear about your dogs Kevin - keeping the bones away from them so they have nothing to fight over in your absence is probably the best idea IMO. Perhaps you could devise a way of keeping them apart while you are gone as well?

My MIL lives with us. So she was home all weekend with them. She isn't Alpha though by any means. ;)

Normally they are inseparable. Generally, you need Sammy to make things cool with Java. Java by herself does not work good. She will follow Sammy. So I don't know that separating them would be the answer, and it certainly has not been needed to this point.

Regardless, bones and chews are now out of the question in abnormal circumstances.

And thanks for all the input guys.

hey powerman, no i wasnt referring to you when i said 'people' :)
i just meant that i think it is extremely irresponsible for people (there it is again ;) ) to get dogs on a whim then when you realize you cant handle them, drop them off at the pound...(kinda like some buys at the LFS!)
maybe you could try behavior modification with the timid one? reward her with small pieces of chicken for positive behaviors, or expose her (in a safe environment) to things she is scared of being positive, and trying to keep her calm and rewarding her..... im just giving advice on my experience....which may or may not be right for you....lol.....guess i didnt help much eh? as for the aggression there have been a number of good tips from people....separate, remove things they may fight over when ure out. good luck! hope she's feeling better after the bite :)
