I am very sorry to hear about the latest incident. Regardless of her breed, if she is aggressive, than there are very few choices you have. You do have a responsibility to ensure that other people and other animals are safe. I know it is a hard decision. I have had to do this on a couple of occasions. One was a doberman that bit my then 3 yr old niece. He was given a reprieve and more training. Then a couple of years later, he did it again. Both times were in her face and she was lucky that her only injuries just needed stitches. But it was bad enough that I did not give it a moment's hesitation to have the dog euthanized. I am a huge animal lover, and I never would look at this as an easy decision or just "throw" an animal away because it is not perfect.

Is there any kind of no kill organization around you that can take the dog? Any other kind will most likely put it to sleep due to the violent and aggressive tendencies.

    I am sooo sorry!

Thats a shame. I'm a huge dog lover and I don't know what I would do in your position. I hope everything works out for the best.

We got her from a no kill shelter. If anything happens they want the dog back. But I can't bear to think of her in a dead end shelter all alone.

So it is down to putting her down or taking her back to the shelter. She is so skiddish that she will never be adopted. She will just live there for the rest of her life. My wife is leaning towards that. I don't know what to think.

I'm really sorry. I feel so sad for you. I guess it comes down to quality of life for the dog...living in the shelter or going to a different place in peace. I know the decision is so hard. I had to put one of my cat's down last year and it was such a hard decision to make.

Are there any rescue orgs that take hard to place dogs, but where she won't live in a kennel all day? We have a place like that up here. The dogs go to live there, not be adopted out....

There is a pit bull ban in Denver. The shelters are full of them. The shelter we got her from is that. They believe every dog can be adopted, but it is full of dogs that won't be.

Sorry about your problems. I too love animals and they have been in my life since I was born as my mother is a dog lover. BUT, if my dog (Mrs. Harley) would ever injure anyone in the house or neighborhood I would not hesitate to put her down. If they do it once they most certainly will do it again. Sounds harsh but my family's safety would come first.

Wish you well in your decision you have to make.

Hey Powerman, its your call at the end of the day, but if you want opinions, I will put mine forward

if the options are a shelter for life or being put down
    I would choose the shelter
I have never been in a prison, but I would be prepared to bet that a large percentage of lifers in those places would choose to stay alive in there rather than face the chair etc.

it may not be the ideal quality of life that you would choose for the dog you have grown to care about, but any life is better than the alternative IMHO
