so the digital controller that is on this Finnex 300w heater is going nuts.. reports tank temp to be 96 when its 74.. so I have a reef angel now, Im wondering if I take desolder the heating element from the Finnex board, and wire it to 110v would it work? or does the controller output a different voltage? If I could direct wire it, I could use it on the reef angel and not worry about another element. Any ideas on if these heating elements are 110v?

ok so poked around on their site. I have a HMO-300. notice the amperage on the following chart.

so, im comparing it to the 300w to the TH-0300 tube heater.. here

seems they both draw 2.7A.. I am betting the tubes are the same component.. I will bust out the multi meter and determine if one wire going to the tube connects to the ground, or neutral of the 110 input of the controller... after that Ill just hook it direct to 110v up and let her rip in a bowl of water after im done holding baby..

i would not trust the controller alone to run the heater. buy a heater with its own thermostat use the controller as a back up.

ok, confirmed, I can just wire it straight to 110v. this is the output of the thing to the heater tube... should integrate nicely with the controller. and heres the dumb part, it is working just fine since i took it apart..

A local reefer is selling one just like urs. Wants $20 for it. I was tempted to get it until I did some research on them, seems like they have lots and lots of probs..a lot of unhappy customers from what I've read!!
