I think I might go with the kole, seems less ugly and I like its personality. Thanks for the info Jonjonwells, and nice black tang Fishluver.

Not all Petcos are the same. There are two of them in my area, one I would never buy from and one that I have bought from. At the one I will not buy from, their tanks do not look like they are being properly maintained and the people working in the fish dept, when you can even find someone, don't seem to know much. At the one I have bought from, they have a few people that know what they are doing and their tanks look well maintained. I have not had any problems with anything I have bought there. The same can be said for the fish only stores in the area, some are better than others.

True, but in general most pet chain stores don't specialize in fish keeping, and aren't that experienced as a good lfs. Besides their overall bad reputatuion for having sick fish. And please don't confuse that as arguing.

I would go with the Kole tang. Very pretty fish and for the most part have a very pleasant personality. I had one with a yellow and did experience a good deal of aggression from the yellow for about 3 days. After that they settled in just fine.

No, I don't take it as an argument. Any place that sells fish can be good or bad. I know the chains have a bad rep for a reason, but there are a few good ones here and there. Whether it is a chain or not, it is a good idea to scope out a store and talk to employees on several different visits before purchasing anything.

I have to admit, they did know enough as to tell me that my yellow tang would most likely kill it, and told me not to get it.

Thanks, I'll probably get the kole tang, I don't think they are that good looking, but I love their personality. Did your kole tang do wierd things with its mouth? I've seen a couple kole tangs at my lfs that open their mouths widely, and repetedly.

I had a Kole tang and though not the prettiest fish, he was very active and yes, had a big mouth. If you get some algae build up on your glass, he may leave lip prints on the glass. He also looked like he had a milk mustache.

Sorry to hear that, I underestimate ich since I've never had any fish die from it, but I'll definitely more careful now.
