so im buyin a cpr hob refugium and hes not including the powerhead, i have an extra AquaClear 20 powerhead, he said the Refugium fits an MJ1200 powerhead, they seem to be about the same style size so i think it should work. Is there anything else i need to get this thing up and running on my tank? Im not sure how it all works. Please, any advise helps.

Not sure what ph will work on it. CPR normally includes a pump (not ph) with the refugiums. There is also an in-line valve so you adjust the flow. Check out Ameka Aquatics - they carry a full line of replacement parts for CPR products: Ameka Aquatics - Product Info

I had one a few months ago I sold.

It had no pump with it, but a MJ pump does fit, and I'm sure that many other ones would as well.

Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. The pump pushes water up, and the rest flows over from the discharge tube back into the tank.

There's some that are powerheads, and some that are proper pumps. The MaxiJet Utility Pump line has both, depending on the size you buy. I think up to the 900 are powerheads, and above are pumps, but I'm not 100% on where they draw the line. There may be an overlap, where you can use the middle ones as either a powerhead or a pump.

Up to mj1200 are powerheads. If you use a powerhead like a pump, is it still a powerhead, or is it a pump? :p

I have a MJ1200 that I actually use as a return pump to supply water to my 40 breeder frag tank, and a mj900 that pumps water to my calcium reactor.

There are MJ utility pumps, which are technically pumps alone.

Well, the outlet fits a rubber hose. That pushes water. Yes, they suck from the inlet screened part.

If something sucks in water, the water has to go somewhere, right? ;)
