Hey guys! I'm new here and headed to intro in a few, but wanted so e advice from you experienced guys. I've been working my way to saltwater for a while and am currently setting up my 60 gal to be a reef tank. Things I have covered: have a marine land magnum 350 canister filter, a coralife 65g skimmer, a coralife lunar aqua light T5 fixture, and a wave maker and heater. I've currently got 30 lbs of live rock in the tank with 75 more on the way, but won't put anything else in until I have the complete setup.

Here's where you guys come in. I've never dealt with a sump tank or a fuge, and am interested in doing so. I have read a lot of things on them and several how to videos have been watched, but I'm not wrapping my head around it to my satisfaction. What I'm looking for is some patient soul to tell me a list of here's what you need start to finish to set the thing up completely along with what you need to do to run it properly. Anybody willing to help me out? Also feel free to chime in on other things I may need.

Thanks for the link! After doing some research I decided to build my own sump. Pump and Overflow are being shipped. Attaching a few pictures for your critiques. Be gentle I'm no engineer ;D. Also, looking for you guys thoughts on what needs to go in for the filtration and cleaning. If you close in the DT picture you can see algae on the glass and also there is some on the sand. I want this kept at a minimum as I start to introduce fish and eventually anenomes and corals. My tank is a 55 gal. From what I've read I need about 1 blue leg hermit/gal, 1/2 astrea snail/gal, 2 tiger tail cucumbers, 2 serpent or brittle stars, and 2 peppermint shrimp. I will have 110 lbs live rock in the tank by this time tomorrow, so thoughts going forward are appreciated. Don't want to get too overboard, but definitely want the filtration and refugium set up right. Any suggestions on what to put in the sump and fuge are appreciated as well.

now in the 1st pic i have my hob skimmer and my cannister. in my cannister is filter elements, LR, and the white tubes. i also have the inlet going into the water not just pooring in. 2nd pic i have my return with carbon in the back of it.

[IMG] heres another view of my fuge and yes i do plan on putting it in the water i just dont know how i want to do it since i want some more algae in the tank. the sump/fuge is a 10g and the fuge is about 1/3 of it. i would love some recommendations on making more use of this sump/fuge. im have micro bubbles im working on at the moment but dont want go to the LFS and spend money that i dont have to. if u give me abbrations please spell them out so i know what i need to have. thank you very much.

well i made this sump for my 55g DT to have a fuge and then give it to my kid when taxes come so she would have 1. for 1 thing u need a bigger skimmer at least rated for 100g whats what i have for my 55g. ive been doing this for around 8 months but still dont know everything. id get a 20g long or bigger. u see my pics. i want a bigger fuge i like the algae u can put inthem and in your DT. i feel my fuge is good but the sump not sure. i have my hob skimmer out of the sump and my cannister in the same place. ive read and seen different setups that its hard to make a good sump/fuge. like should my carbon be in the sump instead of the return? i like my set up but next one ill prob make a couple changes. im useing and old filter as an overflow incase pwroutage comes. keep researching. on youtube i dont know if i can say this but theres a guy named newyorksteelo that has tons of vids and i tend to stay with him. but dont get me wrong there others that are just as good. im moving in a couple weeks so things in my tank will change.
