I've worked on about every make and model on the planet and I will tell you that the Lincoln Navigators are touchy if you dont take extremely good care of them. The Escalades are just dolled up Suburbans/Tahoes, dont have to many issues but they can get pricey fast when it comes to the drivetrain. I've got an 02 and the 5.3 eats gas like no tomorrow. Not sure which CTS you are looking at but the CTS-V is a blast to drive, not sure how it would take to a taller driver though.

I don't really trust american made cars. Sorry. Some people say buy american - I would - but I have had bad experiences with american cars I've owned. I have really enjoyed my Infiniti. I've driven both the Navigator and CTS and I like the CTS - it drives great, but the interior feels cheap - but probably would not buy one. My next car will be another Infiniti, Lexus, or BMW.

Depends how big of an SUV you want. Acura MDX are great, so are BMW X5. But those definitely aren't as big as the Escalade.

Im currently driving a 2002 F150( my first american car/truck) and I've had Toyota's, Honda and Nissan and I must say that this american truck is great. I havent had a single( knocking on wood) problem with it. I pull a 4000+ pound boat with it, fill the bed with all kinds of chit, go 10000-20000 miles without performing a tune-up and its still kicking. I love my american truck.

As far as things in the same size/class as the escalade and navigator, I would go with a GM or Toyota product for reliability. The navigators are nice but I have done to many transmission rebuilds and head gaskets on lower mile ford SUVs to ever want to buy one. Are you looking more toward the size or the luxury of the Escalade? What kind of things are must have?

I have an '03 Trailblazer 4x4. It has the 4.3L Inline 6. This car is amazing for me. I put over 60,000 miles on it last year. I have pulled semi-tankers out of the sand at job sites. Very tough and the only thing that I have had to do besides change the oil... My taillight went out. It is a nice mid-sized SUV with awesome torque for it's size. I have pulled big boats and trailers no sweat. So, for pulling boats and trailers it is perfect. Offroading (you would need to lift it, not enough ground clearance for thick mud and sugar sand). And everyday driving, well 60,000 miles in a year and I am not complaining.

Also... I like Domestic vehicles for many reasons but I think the main reason is... I live in a fairly small town that doesn't have many shops that work on "them there foreign jobs" ha ha ha. So if I ever needed a fix, it is just around the corner.
