I take offense at your remarks about Petco and places like them. :( I've personally gone into many pet stores where it's sell sell sell and where the employees know next to nothing. It's totally up to the consumer to educate themselves. Which is exactly what the OP is doing by coming here. He can feel free to buy from wherever he wants to by being educated with the knowledge he gains from our positive input :)

LOL!!!! The LFS I go to refuses to sell any fish unless it has been in his systems for at least 2 weeks. It is true there are others that have no clue.

I had a Petco employee "manager" selling a customer SW to use for top off. When I address it with the manager he told me to mind my business and he had more knowledge. I told him where to go and how to get there. Now that I think about it, I haven't seen that idiot in a while when getting food for my cat.

I totally agree with you. You shouldn't bash an entire chain of stores because you have had one bad experience with one store. Do people even bother to find out where Petco gets their live stock from? I know where they get some of their saltwater stock from, and you can't beat those places for quality when talking about wholesalers. It is hit and miss when going to any LFS about the knowledge the employees will have. This is with any store, NOT JUST PETCO. I guess I really take offense to bashing Petco, because I have a really good one around me, and I would hate for them to loose business because of some post on here saying that they are a terrible place to buy live stock.

Seriously? Yes, but I hate to tell you most consumers are lazy and won't do research either. They are impulse buyers. Consumers depend on a sales person, tech, manager, etc to point them in the right direction. That is one of the main reasons why people get out of this hobby.

An employee at Petco or a LFS selling Joey stuff he doesn't need or his system can't support. Then fish are dying off. The consumer gets pissed and leaves. Most never return. It's a shame. So be offended at that vs someone speaking the true.

Thus is why I said Livestock including coral. You can do whatever you like. I myself would spend a little more and get quality.

I won't even buy frozen food from them anymore. A couple of months ago I ran out of frozen food, so I went there in a pinch. I looked in the freezer and it was empty. I asked one if their employee where the food was, he replied "oh there was a problem with the freezer and the food thawed", but stated there was some in the back.

He brought me some and it was thawed and warm to the touch. I asked him what the hell was this? He told me it is what they salvages and it was in their back freezer. I told him do me a favor and throw this trash out. I would rathet not feed my fish for a day, than poison my tank.

I'm not bashing them. Just in my own experiences the 5 I have gone to in my area I have gotten the same results.

If others have had great results God bless them. Sadly I have not.
