    Coldshot,
while the Tek 6 is 16" wide, the actual reflectors are 12" it would be a perfect fit for a 55, and be enough light to essentially grow whatever you would like. They are one of the cheapest "GOOD" lights you can get, A. Because SLS sells a serious amount of them B. No fans or splash shield or mounting equipment comes with it....
This is one aspect that turns people off of the Tek, no fans and then they have to buy the splash shield and other goodies seperate.
The TX5 by Aquactinics is VERY nice, comes WITH splash shield, and has built in fans. It is also very thin, maybe 8" wide, the SLRs are shaped in a semi circle instead of straight linear.
I also am not a fan of Current's lights... They are making progress but also duping people at the same time, example would be the SLRs...

After reading your last post Coldshot, it appears as if you have already ordered so this post is moot....

    What did you get?

    Well Doc,
I had done a bit of research about different light's and mine are coming from www.buildyouraquarium.com which are in fact Catalina light's. I have heard good review's about the fixture overall and word has it the bulb's are'nt that good, and will need to be changed ,,that's a small step there. The 6 bulb is 9 wide and they said each bulb has it's own german made reflector that goes the entire length of the bulb. It has a 5 year warranty.
I ordered them sunday the will be here tomorrow. It will at least give me 5 year's to save for better lighting if these are'nt up to par. And it get's me away from Odyssea. Some like Odyssea real well, my deal is that when I changed bulb's with some from reefgeek.com it blew three of my ballast. Mr Morgan from reefgeek indicated to me that it was either cheap ballast, faulty wiring or both. It is highly unlikely (but possible) that one man would get two bad bulb's in a two bulb order, so I will steer away from Odyssea for now. Thank's to those who participated.........One other thing is these light's do not have a splash screen, I am capable of cutting one and fixing a holder. I have a few dremel's around.
    Danny

It's alittle late to help you, Danny.. But maybe it'll help someone else....
Johnnie Mac said they replaced the Odyssea PC bulbs with Corallife bulbs..
I just replaced 2 of my bulbs with Corallife. It's just been a few hours, but so far so good.. And with just tho's bulbs on, I see color, I've never seen befor..
I had neon green, and a brighter green candycanes that always showed up whiteish.. Now they are green.. !!
Sorry, I had to learn by your bad luck..

    Later Larry

But the bulbs are 40 each at my LFS.. It's like a " No Win " deal.....

PC lamps are expensive to replace esp when you should replace them every 8-10 months.
ESU/Coralife are FINALLY phasing PCs out in their MH combo fixtures...
Too bad the rumors I am hearing is that Coralife STILL has no T5 fixture on the market and wont until about Sept time frame, and guess what, it will have ONE GULLWING reflector!! WOW!! Do R/D guys know what SLRs are?

Wow, was that ever off topic?
