I did that too, just remember that they are RO only, no DI. I tested the water from mine and it had .5ppm phosphates in it, as RO only isn't very effective at removing phosphates.

You can try the Culligan water. I always test mine and my phosphate test always comes back 0. I think it just depends on the store and how often they clean the filters. I checked before I started using their water and they do a maintenance and cleaning trip to it at least once a month.

I think it has more to do with the city water in your area going into the machine. Just test it and if everything is at 0,then you'll be ok. I would test for Phosphates and Nitrates as these are the common problems with city water.

You need to test TDS not just phosphates. It could also contain ammonia from chloramines, copper from plumbing or any number of things. If the TDS is maybe 2% of the tap water TDS go for it but its still much more expensive than having your own RO/DI unit.

I figure my RO/DI water costs me just under two cents per gallon in actual water and sewer costs including the waste stream too. Figure in the capital cost of the RO/DI unit and filter replacements over a 3 to 5 year period and I'm still at maybe 5 cents a gallon or less and I have 100% total control of the water quality I produce.

If you purchase water, no matter what the source, you need a TDS meter and you need to use it every time you buy water. Vending machines do not fall under any health regulations in most areas so you are at the mercy of how well they maintain it. Often you are not getting what you think you are. If you muct purchase water, find a Water & Ice type store that is staffed, not a machine. Usually the are more than happy to test the TDS for you once you explain what its for. Still not as good as your own RO/DI but some level of comfort anyway.

At $149 its hard to pass on the Pro Plus found here:
SpectraPure Customer Appreciation SALE! 20% - 50% off

You won't find a better unit for anywhere near close to that.

Here in Yuma we have random water fill up stations all over town that sell RO water for 5 gallons for $1!! That worked well before we bought an RO/DI system.
