Never bought rock from Liveaquaria, but I really think buying your LR in person is so much better. Yes it's a probably a little pricier, but that way you see the rock before you buy it. To me, it seems like most of the rock people buy on the web are usually just plain jane chunks of rock.. In person, you can take your pick and find some really cool rocks to make a sweet scape with. Your scape will be much more unique and original, for sure.

If you are going with live rock, you probably will get the best deal getting it in-person. Search Craigslist, you will have the best luck there finding someone dumping everything that is getting out of the hobby. Don't get too caught up on the colors or coralline, as the majority of that will die off during the cycle anyways.
Personally, I only use and recommend base rock. No reason to risk your new set up with te horrible nuasance algaes out there.

If you are considering dry rock, Bulk Reef Supply's Pukani rock is excellent. I just got 60# and it is some of the most open/porous rock I've ever seen. Definitely recommend.

that is a great price.. usually atleast $4 a lb without shipping.

I bought stuff from live aquaria at one time and it is ok but as others have said

    1) try to find someone selling off their stuff you can usually get some good deals but make sure to find out if they have had any aiptasia or hair algae recently and inspect the stuff.

    2) LFS is usually the best way to go if they are reputable. I have one the gets 400lbs a week of fiji that is cured in the stuff is great but you have to get their the first or second day as it goes quick.

    So shop around, don't settle.

Ironically, I'm actually in the process of curing some Premium Figi LR from LA. Attached are pictures from today's water change. It has been curing for almost 2 weeks.

I find LFS rock to be overpriced, but others are right about getting to choose exactly what you want. I guess a lot of that depends on where in the world you live. Maybe I just need a new LFS. :)
