That's good stuff!! And to think once upon a time we lived in caves and marvelled at fire. Fast forward to using micrometers to cut and peel back the cornea, and lasers to resurface the eye. Amazing.

Awesome pics! I've always wanted to see pictures of this procedure, but could never convince my dad to show me any - likely because he doesn't do LASIK, just other surgeries (laser, plastic/reconstruction, cataracts) lol.

That would be the outer layer of the cornea that's pulled back, where they can ablate inner layers of the cornea with the laser. Then they put back the flap that's removed.

the bit that would get me is when they 'numb' your eye with this massive arse needle.

youch. i wouldn't do that. it's just eye drops.

the freaky part is when you have a numb eye and they poke it, firmly. you're sitting there, looking straight ahead then all of a sudden one eye is looking over there ->

it's very chameleon like. the neat part was it wasn't particularly difficult to process what I was seeing. I thought it might be. it was a very odd sensation have your eye ball prodded enough to move your seeing hole around. that's for sure.

Now if you saw the Dr. with one eye, and your face with the other--then I'd a been worried! :) LOL.

I really don't think I could do that. I am very picky about my eyes and am not sure I could let someone start poking or cutting them with a laser. You got some stones, dude.

    Interesting pics, though.

Very well said. It puts our entire modern day existance into a perspective that most people totally overlook during their time on this planet. The world and the advances and changes we have made to it never ceases to amaze me.

Some things look a lot worse than they really are. LASIK is an outpatient procedure, you come, you're sedated if you feel the need, and you're gone within the hour. You feel absolutely no pain, each eye takes about 8 minutes or so, and the worst part of it is the pressure you feel.

My Dr. tells me I'm not a candidate because of my age. If I could get it, I'd be on it like stink on a monkey!! (Thanks, Cosmo Kramer.) :)
