General question for everyone out there. Do you use a CA Reactor? What are the pros and cons of using one? Any thoughts on if they are a necessity, or a nice to have when it comes to keeping SPS corals?

Yes, I use one and find that the chemistry is more stable than the results of my efforts at dosing the tank...I also find that it requires less work during the day, week, and month but does have it's own maintenance requirements.

Required: No, there are other options/methods that can be employed...

i used to use one with my 90. let me say it is great. you will get large growth from your corals. it releases other elements besides calcium. i don't remember what they were but they were very important. it would be a good investment IMO

The cost is pretty high for one though right? Looking at the reactor itself, plus a CO2 system, PH Probe, etc. Looks like $500+ minimum. Or are you all finding other options out there?

A Cal reactor will set you back anywhere from $800-$1200. I never got one b/c of 2 small reasons.
    1. I dont have the space for one.
    2. I dont have the money for one.
    3. Nor do I have the money to pay for a good divorce lawyer.;D

You can get a Knop C, ARM media, Co2 tank, Milwaukee ph controller, Milwaukee MA957 regulator for $289. Keep in mind that you have to fill the Co2 tank (around $15 in my area).

It can get in the $700+ range if you buy a controller that monitors more than just ph.

P.S. If anyone disagrees I got the link.
