Hey guys lets see if I can get your opinion on a question, I currently have my 75gallon with 30 gallon sump mixed reef running on a Bubble Magus Nac-6 skimmer, rated for around 150 gallons. In about a month or so I will be transferring everything in this tank to a 100 Gallon Rimless I am setting up with a 40 gallon sump. My question is should I keep the current skimmer or upgrade? A guy on craigslist is selling a brand new in Box Cadlights TIA-1220 2nd Gen cone skimmer rated for 250 gallons, for only 175. What do you guys think??

I'd upgrade... usually you want to use a skimmer thats rated for greater than your tank volume. A 150g rated skimmer for a 140g tank will be at capacity and probably won't be able to handle the load unless you plan to stock very lightly.

Not sure about the CAD Lights skimmer specifically, but I've heard nothing but good things about CAD Lights in general.

I was thinking the same and my bubble magus is only a few months old I figure I could get $100 for it. Anyone else?

You could try and see how it goes. Skimmer ratings by the manufacturers have improved greatly. The 2x volume rule is just a waste of dollars.

Ive also heard this but with my new system, I want to be able to have a medium load on it. Im just wondering if the NAC-6 would be able to handle it
