Does anybody have this reactor and if so does it work good or work at all?
I just can't believe the price on it, but it looks simple.

It looks decent but you still have to buy the other components like a regulator kit and whatever else it doesn't include. I don't have one so I can't really tell you if it works good so this is pretty much a bump

that doesnt even look like a normal CA reactor, looks more like a PO4 or NO3 reactor
Most CA reactors are going to look more like this

you have to have the reactor, media, feed pump, recirculation pump, CO2 tank, and Co2 regulator to run a ca reactor then you'd want to have a PH controller as well to keep it from tanking your PH

Thats what I thought but it does come with a bubble counter and a built in pump.also most of the reators I've looked at don't come with the co2 tank or the regulator or the ph controller.

bubble counter is built into most of all the co2 regulators though so kind of pointless on the reactor :)

a bubble counter isnt needed if a pH probe is in line.

that Ca reactor would take alot of fabrication to make it work better. i.e. recirc pump, pH probe, 2nd chamber.

So would something like this work ok? what else would be needed for this kind of setup?
    Coralife Calcium Reactors

I have no experience with cal reators so does the water come in from the little strainer tube? and return on a drip line?

Just remember that you are only buying the reactor itself. You will need a CO2 tank regulator and if you have the budget a pH controller to get the most out of the reactor. Go to Kegwork for a 5lb tank pretty cheap and Milwaukee makes a good solenoid. You want to make sure you use a solenoid so if the power goes out the valve to the CO2 goes shut.

Ca reactor takes water from the main tank mixes CO2 with it to melt the media then puts the water back in the main tanks water system.

during the process of melting the media you want to use all the CO2 up so it doesnt drop the pH of the main tank

the pH of the Ca reactor needs to be below 7 in order to melt the media

the effluent which is the water coming out of the Ca reactor needs to match the tanks consumption rate of Ca,dKH,Mg.

adjust the effluent keeping the pH below 7 is the trick without letting excess CO2 back into the system.

using a recirc pump in the main chamber assures this, a 2nd chamber also assures this, i have 3 chambers.

    Thanks Guys, very informative links.
Thats the part that was confusing me was how to stop the reactor from lowering the ph in the DT, so adding more chambers is a safe guard I take it.
