After I have read this recipe I went to the store to get some dowflake. Unfortunatly, they dont have it (same old story every time).
So what should I do now? i need something that contain calcium chloride dihydrate.

Does anyone know something else that can be use?

    regards,

    Pat

I use a 2 part additive to keep my calcium and alkalinity stable. When you up your calcium your alk goes down and vice versa, thats why alot of people get 2 part additives.

I use the esv bionic 2 part additive. It's very easy to use and most retailers on line sell it. You add equal parts.

Kalkwasser will also help to add calcium and alkalinity. Best to dose it at night however, as the kalk will work with the carbon dioxide in your water column to lower your pH if it is to high! If your pH is too high while doing this, add alittle acetic acid(vinegar) which breaks down into CO2!

I use Mrs Wage's pickling lime to add calcium to my system. It's not a totally accurate way to do it but I add about a teaspoon for every 2 gallons of replacement water from evaporation. My coraline algae has really taken off, all my inverts shed regularly and look awesome and I have some mushrooms and an anenome with fish and have never had a problem --- plus its 2.00 per lb in the grocery store.
I'd also like to hear other peoples feedback who use this for a calcium supplement but my personal opinion is it works great.

I also use baking soda to stablize my PH but my PH has been stable on its own and I've only done that once.

I would like to hear more on this if other people use the pickling lime as well.
