beautemps... if your not dosing anything like alk ca or mg and just doing water changes and keeping your sg in norm range of 1.023-1.025 your test kit is giving false readings.

Ya curious...What is your Kh and your magnesium if they are off whack it will throw your Ca off.

Also take a sample of your water to the LFS and have them test the Ca. & Kh & Mg

If your using the API kit correctly your adding the 10 drops of #1...shake it up then your telling me you used 29 drops of #2?? I use API and trust them as mine are real close to the LFS using salifert

I add 10 drops of #1, shake it, then I do it 5 drops by 5 drops of #2 to reach 500, since I know it's high and then one drop at the time. Maybe I should really do just 1 drop at the time of #2 or it doesn't make any difference?

What do you mean 5 drops by 5 drops?
after you do the 10 #1 then add 15 drops if you are sure it is over 400
Then 1 drop at a time and be very careful and mix it up and watch the color change to the end color
If I am trying to go fast I have over added by 1 or 2 drops and 1 drop is 20 points on the scale.

    I would also vote salinity.

The higher the salinity, the higher the amount of calcium that that new SW contains.
