I need an inexpensive way to keep my calcium in check. I've been using C-balance but it will barely get my calcium above 390. Whatever piece of equipment I use has to be very small and very cheap if possible. Give me some opinions whether it's a Ca reactor or a kalk drip.

    How quickly does it deplete?

If I don't add C-balance everyday it will go down between 300-350 according to how long I wait. I just can't get it to go above 390.

Sorry to be a nuicance and ask questions rather than give answers but do you know what the Alk readings are, both when the Ca is at 390 and when it is at 300-350?

I have absolutely no idea. Don't try this at home newbies, but JohnO the only test that I do is calcium only occasionally. I have other test kits but they're old as the hills. I still don't think I have an Alk test kit.

That's OK, I only tested for Alk, Calc and Magnessium myself and then only infrequestly.

My advice would be to beg, borrow or steal test kits and measure for Alk, Calc, and Mag.

Adjust the Mag first as this is easy and cheap using Epson Salts. A good Mag level ( approx 1400ppm ) will allow you to have higher Alk and Calc combinations.

Right on JohnO ive also heard that the mag must be in a good range in order for the CA/ALK to take

Maqnesium of 1300 - 1400 should do the trick!

I am not sure but most 2 parters have mag. in it.
It would be a great help if you would test and tell us what the pH and Calcium and Alk readings are right now.
