I already got my B-ionic, Kalkwasser, float switch, and pump. Nautilus, my plans are to add the B-ionic for the trace elements and run the kalk at the same time. The side of the B-ionic bottle tells you how much to mix when your adding with kalkwasser. I couldn't find a magnesium test kit. I did find a Red Sea Alk test kit but when I opened it, it reads alk as low normal or high. I think I'm going to take it back. I'm definitely going to test before I aimlessly add. I'm going to check my normal LFS for the test kits tomorrow. Sorry it took me so long to reply. I went on a little mini vacation. Let me know what you guys think.

Well, first things first. This guy thinks you should have taken this family along for the mini vacation. I could sure use one right now.
I don't know "B-ionic" but if it's trace elements only, I would think twice before using it.
I'm just one of very many hobbyists who do not add trace elements of any kind. (kalk and alk not trace) In my case, thats just over ten years now.
The foods we add to the tanks supply more trace elements than enough so that we do water changes just to LOWER the levels of trace elements building up in the systems.

I can't swear to it at the moment, but I believe Randy Holmes-Farley on RC has mentioned that Kalk replaces calcium and alk and has magnesium as well.
In my ten plus years, I've never checked for magnesium nor have I added specifically magnesium to my systems.
I'll see if I can find my link to his article or one of his posts on the topic sometime this weekend, or you can go to his Chemistry forum on RC and do a search.

I think I'm still going to add the B-ionic every couple of days in a low dosage.
