I stay with this, can I ask are you raising the SG in order to increase numbers elsewhere?
as in increase capacity for Mag, Calc and Alk?

I am interested as to why you have targetted 1.027?

    Please share?

i was having problems with maintaining my levels (ca,alk,mg). Additionally, I didn't think several of my corals were all they could be. I had read several threads indicating the higher SG might help. So it became an experiment.

Within a day of getting it to 1.027 my levels leveled at target levels (level level level). No change in coral though.

Within a few weeks of that happening, you may recall my little ATO misadventure, which lowered it. I was just getting settled in with the new SG level so that was a real bummer. And my levels went way out of whack. Which sucked, because I finally had them maintained at great levels and was getting to the point where I was testing it less and less often...

So I want it back where it was so I can continue the experiment and see, long term, if it makes any difference. I am already convinced it helps me keep my levels proper.

I haven't had any fish sickness or any algae problems... so it's nothing like that. (knock on wood)

id be very carefull bc if you lose water to evap and forget to top off or your ATO messes up the salt level can get to high and might cause damage

What kind of carefulness might you suggest?

Just as an FYI my ATO and dosing pumps are on battery backup. I don't know how long the battery will last total, but I know it will last at least 4 hours (that's how long I could take the beeping to test this) and that's enough time for me to realize my powers out and take different steps.

(I have an identical backup on my compooter, that one lasts 6 minutes when the beast is powered up).

In the end, I added 5 quarts of 1.026 saltwater to raise my SG to the high side of the 1.026 line in my refractometer.

All parameters came back to target levels on their own without any additional supplementing (beyond my daily doses).

The new coral is a little rock of Yellow Star Polyps. ;D
