Well my first tank, a 29 gallon, is still cycling and everything is going fine. However!! I've just gone out and bought a bunch of stuff for my next "little" experiment. Inspired mostly by IPSF.com and Rickets Reef (youtube) I will be setting up my own 10 gallon reef tank. I'll see if i can picture catalog as much as possible. I hope to learn a lot from this!! Everything I learn I'll try to pass it on.

    It's a good thing I don't have the space for 100+ size tank....yet ;D

well the standard leak test and moding the hood to reflect more light aka spray painting it white. Not the best paint job but it'll get the job done, plus the inserts are being snipped out after it drys.

lesson learned: if you get overspray on the hood, wipe it off with rubbing alcohol within about 30-60 seconds and it comes right off...

Ciralife 50/50 20w x 2. I may build my own hood down the road but that's good enough for a start. This is my own small scale experiment to get a taste of how some stuff works. Like sump, fuges, and plumbing my own over flow.

You should look into LED's for something that small, it will be totally affordable and will be great on the heat issue.

I may check into that. Thanks. I know this will work for now and it only cost me $20 for 2 bulbs so no big loss if I upgrade in the next few weeks or so.

Yeah, definitely go with what you got, just an idea I was throwing out there. Because eventually LED's will be the standard one day.
