    Look,
When you connect wirelessly or heck, evemn plug into the open port that most have, it will use DHCP. This is how your laptop will get a valid address.

You say you are connected which means that you say a message pop up saying that you are connected. If you click on the message and go into the network configuration, you will have options to get connected. Detected and connected are two different things.

You can follow one of these to get connected
Configuring Windows XP IEEE 802.11 Wireless Networks for the Home and Small Business

Windows XP Wireless Network Setup Wizard - For Dummies

Sometimes with XP you need to go into the NIC properties and right click and selct repair. This will force a new IP address.

If you are connected to the wireless network and have an IP address which you can verify by opening a command window and typing IPGONFIG. If you have an Ip Address similar to this 192.168.0.12 then you will need the WEP or the Wired Equivalent Privacy key which will be a 128 bit or 26 character (0-9 and A-F) key, which most likley you will have to get from your father.

How about looking on Verizon's website or call them. If they provided the wireless router than maybe either they do not want more than one PC connected or they could help you out.

Glad to hear you got it working, I helped my buddy over the phone with his and it was not easy since they use their own router.
