I read a post by Doc Frag, but can't find it again!

Here is what is up, I noticed a white snow in the water, I believe it is calcium precipitating out, I saw this yesterday again when I did a water change.

    Ca 460
    pH 8 to 8.1
    dKH 60 ppm

I read about using baked baking soda to both raise ph and dKH, I think the recipe was 2 1/2 cups baked (300 degrees for one hour) baking soda dissolved in a gallon of RO water, then used as top off water.

Ah, people are hunting me down now!;D
The 2.5 cups or 2.25cups of baked backing soda IS a correct mix, BUT IT IS NOT FOR TOP OFF!!!!!!!
It is part of the two part, which also consists of 2.5cups of CaCl2 in one gal of RO, and lastly 5cups MgCl2 and 3 cups of MgSO4 in another seperate gallon of RO. You use the first two parts in accordance to the demand for it in the tank. For example, my tank, being relatively young yet and not fully stocked with all the SPS that it will be only uses .5cup of the Ca and alk a day. Only a half cup!!
For top off you are looking to use a tsp of kalk mix or Mrs Wages Pickling lime(or other food grade Ca(OH)2) you can find, per gallon of RO. Mix gently to not cause the creation of CaCO3, and let stand overnight. Slowly drip into tank the next day.
KALKWASSER is the top off not the baked baking soda!!

    Good luck and happy reefing!
