I've been having immensely bad luck getting a third fish that lasts...they dont seem to last more than a few months. Fortunately i think i know that the ich got him since my clowns are now infested, dont know why the wrasse or jawfish died (my other previous third additions). was away on Christmas break and had people feeding, but not experienced salt water aquarists.. Idk, i guess its just hard to leave a tank and everything be ok.

And now the ich battle ensues....

    RIP Nurple the Gramma

Will begin further water quality investigations before trying to add again..which might not be for a while:(

yep test everything then let us know the results, we may be able to help you figure out what's going on in your tank. as far as ich(ick..whatever) get a cheapie uv and that'll take care of that. don't use it all the time, just when you see the ich coming back. if your fish keep getting ich, it means 1 of 2 things either they are really stressed or bringing in other fish that already have it.

yea, my tank is coming up on a year and the clowns had never gotten it before. Im thinking it was the gramma. Im going to run tests tomorrow, my guess is that there might have been an ammonia spike after the gramma died and that may have caused the clowns to be stressed and get the ich.

UV huh? Haven't heard that before but it sounds alot better than taking my fish out of the tank for six weeks, i'll investigate further into that, thanks for the tip

Yeah you can also transfer your current fish to a quarintine tank for that period of time and let the ich die off in your display tank. Treat them with hyposalinity or if wanted cupramine can be use also for shorter period of treatment. Next time you buy make sure to quarintine it first.

I am curious where you purchased your Royal Gramma? I have had questionable results from certain LFS and have instituted a mandatory quarantine. Sorry for your loss. Not a great start to the New Year. I too had my clowns acquire ich from a sick addition. I slowly lowered the salinity, added garlic to my food, let my temp drift up a little and was able to save the clown. Hope this helps a little. Good luck with the rest of '09.
