I have been using workhorse ballasts on t5ho for longer than Tek has used them in their newer fixtures.

I have had absolutely no premature bulb wearouts from the instant start of the WH ballasts.

I even ran my 3x39 over my 35g with the same bulbs for over 2 years with no signs of darkening on the bulb ends. I think I actually ran the bulbs for like 27-28 months.

On RC, a few years back I was dubbed the "Official RC Workhorse Ballast run T5HO Guinea Pig " by the Grim Reefer.

Aquactinics uses WH's on the non OD'd t5 lights as well.

If there is any ballast I would not recommend that says they can run t5s I would call out Icecap 430 and 660 ballasts. They actually run the bulbs at a lot more power and wear the bulbs out quicker than any other ballast I have seen. They also seem to bleach out sps and other corals when compared to normally driven t5ho setups.
