Don't worry I borrow this camera from work as I'm not wealthy.

For the best up close tank pic abilities you would want a 1-1 macro lens or greater.

That will also depend on what lens you use. The D5000 ins't a point and shoot.

So I hadn't realized that there was a second page when I posted.. I'm not sure if you were originally looking to get an expensive camera with all those crazy features, I mean photography is a hobby in itself. I can't imagine how other reefers could afford a second hobby lol. For me - I was just looking for something to take great pics of my tank and corals - while not hurting my ability to buy a new skimmer if need be.. Which need did be because the old one pretty much electrocuted my boyfriend lol. This camera does have a macro lens, but I am not sure if it has the capabilities of the others mentioned in this thread. Either way, I am happy with this one, and it is as easy to use as any. Just learn how to get to macro mode, macro zoom, and adjust brightness. Simple as that. Heres what that did..

Yes I also used this camera to take a pic of cyano up close. Lol just kidding. But I did take a pic with this camera of cyano through the lens of a microscope.. You can see my thread - all those pics were taken with this.

The model number for the one I have is DMC-FH20R. They make many others for under your $200 price range that have even better zoom and capabilities. I'm not sure why they are so cheap but they seem to be well built and have great reviews. They came out with this one right after I got mine which has double the zooming capability ::) and still under your price range. Wish I had known lol...

    Just stay with the iPhone!

If you have the money and you take a lot of pictures in general then I say go for it! I thought about buying one myself and came the conclusion that it's not worth my money to take slightly better pictures.

Either way, lookin forward to some nice pics! Sorry I can't recommend a camera, but I'm sure most cameras these days will do the trick.
