    Dear friends! My sulfur-based denitrificator just arrived :) What a neat piece of equipment! I've already installed it in my tank! My initial/current nitrate level is ~15mg/ml.

    thats one cool looking reactor, almost would make me think about putting some ARM media to replace the arag to see if it could do de-nitrifying and CA at the same time :p

    Aragonite is used as a primary source of carbon for sulfur-dependent denitrification bacteria. Moreover, since one of the side products of the denitrification are protons, Ca-containing aragonite neutralizes sulfuric acid that is created in the reactor yielding neutral salt -> CaSO4. Consequently, pH of effluent is around 7.5. I'm expecting pH to increase, since reactor has been running only for few hours now. In principle, this is also very simple sulfuric acid - based kalkreactor.
