So you're saying it should be fine? I was always under the impression that dry rock would take quite a lot longer. I guess I was wrong. I guess I'll assume it's done cycling?

Waiting can't hurt but cycles are a strange beast.

Hey cam, sounds like a good start! Despite what the lfs told you I would hold off on adding livestock. I think your cycle is just starting. Try leaving a table shrimp in there in til it decomposes. I don't think you have had enough ammonia buildup and decline to start the development of the nitrate cycle. That shrimp should help provide the ammonia you need to kick off the cycle. Good luck bro!

Thanks for the help, everyone. I think I'll just let the cycle continue and test it in the process :)

I think that is the wisest course of action. See how it changes in the next few weeks.

And that's why I was so confused. Okay, I'll dose a small amount of Microbacter7 as well as get a few inverts and see how that goes.

Hey Cam, sorry if I confused you. And yes, Alex is absolutely correct there will NOT be nitrates at the beginning of a cycle.

Nitrates will be the last thing you will see in the cycle. Ammonia first, then it will decline and u will see a rise in nitrite. Then nitrites decline and that is when you will see the nitrate.

What I was trying to say, but did so quite poorly, is that I would wait until you see all three of those to occur before you add livestock. So when you see nitrate in the cycle u r close.

I think u may not be giving it enuff of a source of ammonia to really get the cycle started. A few pinches of food may not be enough, which is why I was suggesting the table shrimp. It gives more of a god source for the bacteria population to feed on.

I hope that helps clear things up and helps you decide what next steps to take.

Sorry again for the confusion, and good luck!
