Bump. What's the procedure for bleaching rocks? Are there any alternatives? Do I even need to bleach them since they've been dry for a few months?

I'm sure it's just me but I wouldn't bleach them. I don't think there is a reason to, no?

That's what I was thinking, since they've been dry for quite a while now. Should I just start cycling them?

With the rock, put it in a tub of saltwater and check the parameters every couple of days. Change the water weekly until there are no nitrates... I would cook it for at least a few weeks until you are sure it's not leeching anything

What do you mean by cooking it? Do I just do what you posted, or do I need to do something else (besides cycling, of course)?

What you want to do is to see if it's leeching phosphate and has organics on it that are going to die off. So basically, what I told you, is actually how to cook it. Just put it in a tub with a heater and powerhead. Let it run for a few days and test your water. If you have phosphate, nitrate, etc...you want to do a water change and keep going. The goal is to drain the rock of any phosphate that may have built up in it which will limit algae growth when you get up and going.

I just made a little light holder for a one bulb T8 fixture that I had laying around. I built one yesterday, but it was too wide, so I built this one. This time it snapped and a chunk flew out when I was pre-drilling it (go figure), but I'll make it work :)

I plan on putting the light in the stand so I can look at the sump if need be and also have a refugium.

I just set up the light holder. I'll get some pictures tonight.
