I haven't checked yet. Would something like this work?

Aquarium Water Temperature: Coralife Digital Thermometer

Yes that will work, but do you want to have a cord hanging outside your wine glass all the time? Since that doesn't have an alarm the infrared thermometer would work the same, just no wires laying around. :)

I could always just put it in when I want to check. I just don't want to spend a ton of money on a thermometer :-/

No worries, the temp probe you selected works fine. I thought I would mention the infrared thermometer for fun. It has really become a useful tool when making water changes & power outages.

It seems really cool. I just want to save some money, which is already hard to do in this hobby lol

I'm scared to know how much I've spent, especially after having to almost completely restock when the 29 gallon crashed :-/

I shudder to imagine... my first "cheap" tank was supposed to run about 500 for start up. the lfs I was using at the time had a rewards program, and once every 3 months they sent you a statement showing how much you spent. $1200 lol, and thats not the only place I bought stuff from. the new tank I'm starting- again supposed to be cheap- has so far cost us $800+, and it still needs a bunch of stuff :p

LOL sorry for going off on a tangent- love your new tank cam;)
