Can a Deltec APF600 be used without a sump?

I currently have a MCE600, but I want something with a bit more volume for my 150 gal reef.

I am a bit confused by the details for the APF600, as it says that it can be used next to the aquarium and either gravity or pump fed. That bit sounds fine as I dont have a sump, but do you need another pump to get the flow back up to the aquarium, or do you gravity feed the skimmer and then use the pump to draw from the return outlet back to the aquarium? I presume the pump that you get with the skimmer just circulates the water in the skimmer and adds the bubbles?

Also is there any option to drain the nogg from the collection cup, or do you just have to keep emptying it each time.

    Thanks for any advice.

If it says it can be gravity fed than I assume it can be gravity fed. I would also recommend looking into a sump for a tank that size.

Thanks for the reply, as I thought it can be gravity fed with the output needing to be pumped back up to the aquarium. Obvisouly this comes with the usual danger of the pump failing resulting in a major flood as there is no sump to hold the excess water.

Anyway, I have got the skimmer now and will indeed be going down the sump route as you suggest.

if you elevate the skimmer so the drain is higher than the main tank than you can feed the skimmer with a pump and have it drain back into the main display...but if you have a sump than that is obviously the better route.
