I've read through the COTM threads for Hammer, Torch, Frogspawn. I love COTM for reference!

Anyway, as far as I can tell, these three corals are very similar. But there are some differences in the COTM articles that raise some questions for me. I already have a Torch and am looking at getting a purple tip Hammer. Deciding on potential placement in my tank before I order though.

Will a Hammer bother a Colt if it's within range of sweepers? I've heard these are actually OK by the softy, but I've also heard otherwise...

I am running T5's. So I have my torch up kind of high. I read in the COTM article that these can be light forgiving so I'm wondering if I can put the hammer 10" below the water line or if it should stay in the top 6"?

    Thanks

I wouldn't let the Hammer touch the Colt, personally. Hammers sting and Colts do not. It's like when my Anemone took out my Colt. Completely slaughtered it.

As for depth placement, I would try it somewhere in the middle.

I would not put the hammer any where near the colt. Hammer corals have some of the strongest sweepers out there. Plus, soft corals may secrete toxins when stresses or threatened which will negatively affect lps corals, so keep the colt down stream of the hammer.

The euphyllia's (hammer, frogspawn, torch) can all be right on top of each other. I dont know about the colt specifically, but I would say with 99% certainty no. I have personally seen my torch take out quite a few different kinds of sofeties, I dont see why the colt would be any different.
And I would think you could go lower with your torch. You're lighting isn't enormous but its pretty good, you should have no trouble placing it where your heart desires.
BTW I still think your torch is a frogspawn :p

Hammers don't need high light, I have mine in the bottom of my tank maybe 18" from T5's and it's doing fine. They are light forgiving but be careful about changing the lighting too drastically, gradually move it higher in the tank if you need to go that direction. I don't think there's as much of a problem with moving it into lower light though although it might take a little bit to acclimate to the lower light conditions.

The hammer can touch the colt. I was concerned about this a long time ago and noticed omard has kenya/euphyllia co-existing. Let me see if I can find a pic. I have about 2" of space between my kenya/hammer now. Lol, my kenya is closed right now::).

That is the exact thing that brought the question to my head Mission! Reading that very COTM post.

If a hammer can do it, why not the frogspawn or torch, right?

I dont know if there is a difference between the stings of euphyllias or down to the individual specimens, but I have seen my torch sting/burn the bejesus out of my kenya's, gsp's, and mushrooms.
