Is it possible? I'm working on transfering my puffer's tank to sw and i would like something to go in with him. It's a 20 tall. Let me tell you about my puffer, he is an extremely aggressive fish and will literally kill anything that goes in his tank. So i know i can't have any fish in there with him for one, becasuse the size of the tank, and two he would kill them. So would a mantis work? Or would he kill the mantis, or the mantis kill him? Also he's a green spotted puffer, and yes they can go full marine.

Nope. Puffer will eat small mantis shrimp, and larger shrimps will fight the puffer and one will die.

I can't answer your question about the mantis, but I used a green puffer and a black molly to cycle one of my fish only sw tanks, but yes the puffer attacked the molly so i took him out and put back in fw tank. The molly is still in the sw tank today and happy as can be.
