Can anyone ID this sump/fuge/skimmer plz... I'm looking for the name of it so I can figure out what size pump to use for skimmer... I'm using what I thought was good enough, but I guess not because I can't get any bubbles! Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Not always,
but usually these days, the skimmer comes with it's own pump.

You don't mean the white pvc pipe in it with the holes do you?

As long as the DT size is right for how big this is, it looks as though it could be made into a nice sump.

It might have had pump new but I bought it used from a guy & he never used it so had no info about pump..

It actually works like this :
The whole box is considered the sump & looking @ first pic from left to right on far left is where water comes from DT tank thru a filter sock (or egg crate with filter material) 1 very slow pump is hooked up to the PVC pipe with holes (which is considers the fuge & it slowly trickles upwards then over flows back into next section which is the main part of the sump...behind the v shape you see in the first pic is the skimmer portion... you can see in second pic that behind the PVC pipe with holes has the collection cup... very good setup.. you might have to zoom in on pic to understand...

A thousand pardons, but I'm just not seeing a skimmer at all. What it looks like to me is a bag chamber; where you put nylon bags of phosguard, carbon, or whatever else you're using and the jets form the PVC pipe circulate the water through the bags. If it is in fact a skimmer, it's an oddball at best. The whole rig looks to be a homemade rig given the odd dimensions and strange ins and outs...which begs the questions: Who actually built it? And did it ever really work to begin with?

I agree with the part of hard to see the skimmer... it is not homemade though but I believe it is older unit... I do know 1 other guy that has 1 for his 240 gallon DT.. of course its twice the size so his pumps would be different... & of course he bought his used so there was no way to find out the name.... what I will do is take more pics & try to label each section to explain better... but if you look @ 1st pic you can see where about 6"-10" from the left starts a v shape that does not go all the way down to bottom, tht has the PVC pipe with the holes....that is a fuge where water travels up slowly through rock, cheato, water else u put in it, till it over flows back into the sump area where you then put a pump to return water to DT... ignore the pipes on bottom left side... they serve no purpose for my application... I will do more pics to explain better...

uploadfromtaptalk1354383587651.jpg this pic shows a little better the v section which is fuge... uploadfromtaptalk1354383667179.jpg this pic is showing that the whole box is the sump area...the fuge section does not ho all the way down. uploadfromtaptalk1354383795192.jpg this pic shows skimmer... the little piece with the PVC 45° on it is where the aeration takes place to do the skimming... the PVC with check valve is for the fuge section... uploadfromtaptalk1354383928594.jpg another pic of skimmer... uploadfromtaptalk1354383955210.jpg just the back of the whole thing... hope it explains it all...please ask any questions & I'll answer best i can...

That looks like the top end of a Top Fathom skimmer. I've got one in the basement somewhere. Let me see if I can find it.

ADDED: Nope. That ain't it. Sorry.
