I feed live salwar ghost shrimp to my stomatopod. The problem is my overweight damsel has gone on a binge. She has eaten two already that I have seen and is working on catching a third. I believe she will eat all 12 if she can catch them all.

I know its possible but is it likely? My girlfriend told me horses don't have a sense of fullness so if they get into the feed barrel they will eat until they die. Are fish the same way?

It took her less than 2 minutes to eat the two shrimpies haha. I typically feed her for 20 seconds only. She is a voracious eater.

I'm not proud of this, but I found that if you feed a betta 1 pellet at a time instead of a bunch at once, its belly will burst. Ooops...

I would say that fish can and will gorge themselves to death if they can.

Has anyone ever talked personally with someone who has had this happen?.... No, it's not likely.

Wait so what? I'm confused. Its better to throw all the pellets in at once?

I feed her one or two 1mm sinking pellets for a maximum of about 10 pellets, which I estimate takes about 20 seconds, probably less.

I buy the ghost shrimp 12 at a time and I am not motivated enough to store them in a separate tank so a $4.99 fish doesn't gorge itself to death. Maybe I will make a little box out of gutter guard so they have more places to hide safe from the killer fish. Ghost shrimp are a rare occasion when I got to the LFS and they have them in stock.

There are still two in the tank, so at most she could only have eaten 10 in 24 hours and I am not sure how many the mantis got, if any.

Thanks Incognito. They are live shrimp so I think if she is close to gorging herself to death she would be to slow to catch them. I'm not going to worry about it.
