That skimmer should be fine. I dont think you can run too big of a skimmer, some just arent economical or efficient at a certain point. I would check with eshopps but most skimmers run best in 8-9 inches of water.

Too big works, but can become really tough to dial in, as there may not be enough waste to maintain a foam head.

That's a big range. When figuring out your needs, remember to include your total water volume, not just the DT. I know I have to rethink my water volume all the time because I forget to factor things in.

You can't have too big of a skimmer... EVER. It will eventually not have enough organics to pull out so the foam head will go down but after you feed it will go back up.

I run an 8 inch octopus skimmer on a 120 gallon tank. It is a bit oversized as I think this one is rated for 300+ gallons? Don't quote me on that. With this being said, I can and do feed more and I enjoy that. You CAN overskim but it is very hard

its not so much a bad thing but a hard thing.

short answer is yes it can be to big and very hard to preform in a smaller tank if it is to big.

that size wont give you alot of issues, but lets say you got a 300 gallon plus rated skimmer and put it in there then that would cause more issues than what the gain would be.

Depends on what you are keeping....if you are keeping softies that like the water a little dirty you could over skim but I am in the camp of you cant over skim since my tank is a Predator FOWLR
